“Feed my sheep.”

I listen to "Renewing Your Mind" on the radio every morning on the way to work. This morning, Dr. J. Ligon Duncan was talking about Christ’s command to "Feed my sheep." As we will be covering the commands of Christ in Home Teams this summer, I started thinking about what that means, especially since our first command to study will be "go and make disciples."

Dr. Duncan spoke of preaching from the Word and using the context to evangelize at the same time. This doesn’t necessarily translate to those of us in the laity. However, as we go about our day, we usually get into conversations where we could offer our opinions and/or advice. In such instances, do you find that you share that the foundation for your opinions and ideas is Christ? Are you in the Word enough to be able to relate what you do to scripture, and be able to "give a reason for the hope that you have" as Peter urges?

If you are not in a place where you get into conversations, do your actions glorify God and make others wonder why you act as you do, with uprightness and kindness in all things? Our lives should reflect the wondrous renewal that comes from accepting Christ and "taking advantage of every opportunity for doing good in these evil days."

All of us are called to feed Christ’s sheep. We are all called to "go and make disciples." Take some time today to ask Jesus what that looks like and what He wants you to do to fulfill his command. He does not leave us to figure this out alone. In giving us this command, He also gives help: "Behold I am with you always, to the end of the age."
